Strength Training Activities
Depending on the strength training you choose to reach your goals, you can use various equipment (or none).
- Body weight: using your body weight and the force of gravity to perform various movements (e.g., pushups, squats, planks, pull-ups, and lunges)
- Free weights: equipment not bound to the ground or a machine, like dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, or items around the house, even training ropes
- Resistance bands/loop bands: elastic bands that deliver resistance as it stretches
- Weight machines: machines fitted with adjustable weights or a hydraulic system that is connected to supply resistance and put stress on muscles
- Suspension equipment: is composed of ropes or straps anchored to a solid point where a person uses their weight and gravity to perform different exercises
Regardless of the weight training you perform, the objective is to place your muscles under tension to allow neuromuscular adaptations and will stimulate muscle growth. At regular practice, the muscles will become stronger.
